RE: Keurig Coffee Maker opinions?

I just gave Don one for Xmas a couple of weeks ago - he likes it a lot! (I don't dop coffee but might do cocoa occasionally) It costs about .50 per serving - not inexpensive - but makes a good cuppa.

RE: RV park restrictions on older motor homes

I think it is mainly employed by the "upper-class" RV "resorts" who want to limit their clientele to the ultra-expensive rigs and exclude all us "riff-raff". We'e never been to one with that rule and have never been asked the age of our rig.

RE: Ready to hit the road

We are at $1.49 today. But diesel is a $1 higher .... Why in the world?!!

RE: Lint????in Splendide Washer Dryer Combo???

On the bottom right is a type of filter which catches heavy stuff but in the 5 yrs I have owned mine, I have found almost nothing in it so I don't bother to even look more than once a year, if that. Mandalay explained it very well.

RE: First time RVing

We have a 38' DP and I am very comfortable driving it but then I have driven several types of trucks that are Class C size and have more guts than sense sometimes!! If she can think of the C as a very large pickup, maybe it will help. Our MH is actually more comfortable to drive for long distances than most cars - just much larger!! Let her practice on interstates where the driving is mostly straight ahead until she is more comfortable with it. As for setting up, etc., the rental place should tell you everything you need to know about setting up that particular unit.

RE: Credit/Criminal Checks for 30+ days at campground?

No, I'm sorry, but I think that is excessive and gives no telling who access to my information which would then allow a simple way for a dishonest employee to steal my ID. Even honest ones do not need that info, IMHO. Further,as pointed out above, such checks do not guarantee anything except that I have been good about paying my bills in the past and have not been convicted of doing anything illegal. I have absolutely nothing to hide but I would refuse and move on.

RE: Good puppy training pads

I agree with the crate training method. You must keep in mind that an adult male Aussie can be 50-60 lbs and you do not want a dog that large doing his business inside no matter if he is using a pad! And dham is also right - they are very active dogs and need lots of exercise. We got our Katie from the shelter after the owners turned her in because she was too "hyper". She wasn't hyper, she just needed attention and exercise! Aussies are great dogs - very smart and very loving.

RE: To purchase a RV lot in a park... or not!

We've considered this and decided to not do it. We didn't want to be committed to returning to the same place or having to sell it when/if we decided we no longer were RVing or to be obligated to the taxes, upkeep, etc., on year round basis for a few months use. There are pros & cons to doing this, of course, and if it suits your needs, by all means do it - it just wasn't for us.

RE: Awning lengths - any problems with the long ones?

Some folks feel it is necessary to add a center brace on that length awning - some don't. You would need to be sure that there is room to attach the braces and that they will properly clear the windows or any other openings.

RE: Do I Pay Sales Tax on a Used Class A?

Long story short .... YES.

RE: What do I need at a Dump Station?

You need a "donut". This is the device that fits on the end of your hose and screws (or at least fits) into the sewer opening so everything is directed into the opening and not all around the apron, ground, etc. The donut also is used when you have full hookups at your site for the same reasons plus to keep the odors down.

RE: Eyeglasses in Nuevo Progresso?

Yes, Progresso has several offices. The one I visited asked for full payment in advance and I was put off by that so I didn't follow through but that could have been just that one place. (Nuevo Progresso is the US settlement just inside the border - it is not much besides a small collection of houses, a $ General, and a service station)

RE: Class "A" floor mats

I got a plastic desk chair mat (the type with the little points to keep it from scooting) and cut it to size. Used a table saw to cut it - be sure to wear goggles - those little points pop off & fly!!It has been in place for 2 yrs now and has not moved at all. Don has no agility at all and uses his feet to push himself into the chair so it gets a workout.

RE: Hi- Looking for advice on route to Florida from Chicago

The only mountain on I24 is Mont Eagle east of Chattanooga. We don't consider it that bad, actually. I am not familiar with I64 so can't speak to that route. You could also consider I65 all the way to I10 in FL then to I75. Misses Atlanta altogether.

RE: camp ground that alow 36ft 5th wheel

At Fishing Bridge, the truck is parked beside the trailer so, aside from parking the rig (which would be no problem for you as a professional driver!) which can be tight in some sites, you will have no problems. At FB, the tail of your rig is behind the TV of the site behind you at an angle to the access road. The sites are close together but you do have a bit of grass at each site.

RE: First Christmas away, need advice

This will be our third year for Xmas in the RGV. The first year, my then 16 yr old granddaughter made pics on my digital camera and told me to look at them Xmas day - all sad pics of her!! In the RGV it is warm, there are special Xmas programs available to go see, Hidalgo has a light show, your park will, no doubt, have a pot-luck dinner, and it is warm. And you avoid all the hassle of fixing and cleaning up from the huge holiday dinner. Can you have everyone gather for Thanksgiving? That would satisfy the "seeing everyone at the holidays" need.

RE: In a real emergency......

I've often thought about that very thing - no, neither of mine would come, I'm sure. Katie is a very nervous type and Maggie is just hard-headed. At night I can grab them easily because Katie sleeps with me and Maggie is in her crate next to the bed. Daytime would probably find Maggie in my lap and Katie nearby but there is no guarantee. I wish I could say they are perfectly trained but, alas, I am not that good a trainer, I fear.
